Top 10 Reasons Smoking Bans Are Good For You

Smoking bans have resulted to numerous positive effects not just to smokers but to non-smokers as well. The top 10 reasons why smoking bans are good for you.

1. Improved Public Health
In a study conducted by Scottish researchers, it was found that hospital admissions due to heart problems dropped down to 17% after one year of imposing a smoking ban.

2. It Pushes People to Quit
Quitting smoking is a something that takes a lot of effort. Without a push (from THE MAN), smokers will have a very few reasons to quit even though they are very much aware of its negative effects. But if there's a legal consequence in smoking, then more smokers will choose to quit.

3. Reduced Secondhand Smoke (SHS)
Because of the ban, there will be reduced rate of secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke was known to be more dangerous than the firsthand smoke. This is because as the smoker exhales, the chemicals found in tobacco mixes with the carbon monoxide, forming more harmful compounds.

4. It Exposes the Downsides of Smoking
Smoking bans come with social awareness. Once it is banned, people, especially the youth will begin to notice and encourage more people to quit. Banning smoking also gives the government and health groups the opportunity to teach of the danger that comes with this habit.

5. Less Pollution
Cigarettes and SHS produce hazardous chemicals that pollute the air. Spending even just a few minutes in an enclosed area with this pollution can suffocate and lead to serious medical conditions.

6. Discouraging the Youth
Children do what they see. When they always see people smoking everywhere, they will think that it is right to smoke. Banning smoking is an ideal way of encouraging the youth not to try this bad habit.

7. Reduced Expenses
People who smoke spend more than a thousand dollar each year for smoking. If smoking is banned, they will be discouraged to buy more cigarettes, helping them to save money while at the same time, relieving themselves from its health effects.

8. Less Smoking in the Workplace
Not all professionals smoke. In closed areas like offices, agencies, and the like, it isn't ideal to smoke as it can affect non smokers too. It wouldn't be nice to smell cigarette fumes in an air-conditioned room.

9. Improved Productivity at Work
A group of researchers studied the intangible cost of smoking. They found that employees who smoke are less productive than those who don't. They notice that smokers spend more time in breaks and would usually request for sick leaves because they developed smoking-related problems.

10. Smoking Ban Saves More Lives
Because of the mentioned reasons, we can say that banning smoking can save more lives. With this government intervention, more people will be free from being slaves of tobacco.
