How One Mother Quit Smoking For Good
In order to quit smoking for good so many factors really come into. None them however involve people badgering me to quit smoking. As a mother of 3 I had taken to smoking as a sort of social accessory.
At the time my husband or shall I say my former husband Adell was a smoker. Along with the smoking scene came the proverbial party friends who all smoked. There I would sit between dances on the floor, looking around. I didn't drink alcohol. After all my mother trained me to be a good Methodist Christian. And we didn't drink beer or wine.
A friend of ours in that set, said "Doris you look so pretty but girl you've got to do something beside dancing and sitting."
So, she taught me to smoke. I sure wish she had never given me that first cigarette.
Quitting smoking has been one of if not the toughest things I've had to do (besides divorcing Adell). But tough times calls for tough measures.
The way I quit was either a stroke of genius or a miracle. I knew that after the divorce I couldn't go on smoking. The cost in terms of dollars spent on them was just to great for a single mom of three. But the only thing holding us together versus being thrown out on the street homeless was my cigarettes and my brother letting us stay in his house rent-free.
After getting back into my religious faith and really applying what the scriptures teach I stumbled upon my saving grace, my ticket to quit smoking was an act of deliverance. I know that many of you may not understand this but the Lord was able to deliver me from this physical addiction. Sure, I still had to face the consequences of all the years of my smoking. Not only scaring my lungs but the lungs of my young family as well. But I am now smoke free.
I've been smoke free since 1979. So, there is no doubt that this works. I prayed often during those times of depression and cravings for a cigarette. I chanted scriptures over and over again. But I had a higher power helping me to quit smoking for good. If you'd like to know which scriptures I used just ask me in the comment feature below.
You can start on the road to wellness just like I did. But instead of just relying on the higher forces, I'd recommend you see you doctor first. She will likely do an assessment and share with you the latest stop smoking treatments. Drugs like Zyban and Chantix are an immense help for hard core smokers.
